How the check works.

It uses the same method as my study of 120 AI plumber recommendations, run for your trade and your town.

    Three fresh AI searches

    I ask the same OpenAI model my study used, with web search switched on, for your trade in your town. Two different wordings, three answers in all, each starting with no history.

  2. 02

    Nothing is given away

    The AI is never told your business name or given a list of businesses. It finds and chooses on its own, the way it would for a customer.

  3. 03

    Who it names, and why

    I read out every business it names, check whether yours is one of them, and count the websites it cited as its sources.

What one check can't tell you.

AI answers change from one ask to the next. Treat this as a snapshot, not a score.

    It's one AI, not every one

    The check uses OpenAI's API with web search. The ChatGPT app, Google's AI answers and others can choose differently.

    Answers vary

    Ask the same question twice and you can get different names. That's why the check asks three times and shows you all three.

    A citation isn't a cause

    Seeing a directory cited doesn't prove a paid listing gets you recommended. My study found the same, and says so.

    It isn't a ranking guarantee

    Nobody controls what AI recommends. What you can control is how easy you are to find, check and trust.

Is it really free?

Yes. Each check costs me a few pence in AI fees, and I'm happy to pay that. I ask for your email so I can see who's using it, and so I can help if your result isn't what you hoped.

Why did my own ChatGPT search say something different?

The ChatGPT app uses your location, your history and its own settings, and AI answers vary from one ask to the next. This check starts fresh each time, so it's closer to what a new customer would see.

What happens to my details?

Your trade, town, business name, email and result come to me, James, by email. I don't sell them or add you to a mailing list. I might reply once with a suggestion. See my privacy note.

How do I get AI to recommend my business?

Be easy to find and easy to trust: a clear website with a page for each job and town, a complete Google Business Profile, the same details on every listing, and a steady flow of genuine reviews. That's the work my Local SEO does every month.
