TrustATrader Cost: How Much Is Trust a Trader Per Month?

by James Tandy Getting leads 8 min read

TrustATrader doesn't publish a price list. Here's how its annual fee works, what I could and couldn't verify in October 2026, and how to tell if it's worth joining.

How much is Trust a Trader per month? If you've gone looking, you'll know the frustrating answer: TrustATrader doesn't publish its prices. As of October 2026 there's no price list on its website, just a form and a callback.

So I've done the next best thing. I've read its trader terms and FAQs, checked what's actually stated, and pulled together what's known about the cost, what isn't, and how to work out whether TrustATrader is worth joining for your trade.

I'm not a member, and I don't earn anything from TrustATrader or any other platform. I build websites and do local SEO for trades, which I'll come back to at the end.

How much is Trust a Trader per month?

The first thing to know is that it isn't really a monthly fee. TrustATrader's FAQ says it charges a yearly fee for membership, and its trader terms say the fee is payable annually, in advance.

The second thing to know is that the amount isn't published. You apply online or ring up, and you get a figure on a callback. TrustATrader doesn't say how it sets that figure, so expect it to vary with your trade and area.

Figures quoted around the internet run from a few hundred pounds a year to about £1,000. I couldn't find one I'd trust as current: most are old forum posts or estimates from companies selling something else. If the real figure sits anywhere in that range, it works out at roughly £25 to £85 a month. Treat that as a feel for the size of the number, not a price.

The only way to know yours is to ask. Ring 01438 870097 or book a callback through the join page, and ask for the full year's cost in writing.

TrustATrader prices and terms at a glance

Here's what I could check on TrustATrader's own pages, as of October 2026:

QuestionWhat TrustATrader says
Published price list? No. Prices come on a callback.
How is it charged?A yearly membership fee, payable annually in advance.
Pay per lead? No. Its join page says there's no commission and you never pay for your leads.
Contract length12 months from the date your profile goes live.
Cancel mid-term?No. The terms say you can't cancel before the 12 months are up, and fees aren't refundable.
Auto-renewal?No. The terms say it contacts you at the end of each year instead.
Members per areaNo more than ten in your trade category in your area at any one time.
Time to go liveAbout two to three weeks, once references, insurance documents and signed terms are in.
Entry requirementsAt least two years in your trade, plus certificates where relevant (Gas Safe, Part P), insurance and references.

The terms I've quoted are TrustATrader's trader terms and conditions, last updated in February 2023. If the paperwork you're sent says something different, your paperwork wins, so read it before you sign.

How does Trust a Trader work?

For a trader, it goes like this. You apply, send your documents and references, sign the terms and pay the annual fee. Once you're checked and live, you get a profile with your details, photos and reviews, plus stickers, leaflets and web logos to show you're a member.

Customers search the directory by trade and area, read profiles and reviews, and get in touch with the traders they like. There's no per-lead charge, so every enquiry that comes in costs nothing extra once you've paid for the year.

Reviews are the engine. Reviewers have to register their details, and TrustATrader says it spot-checks reviews by phone and investigates any feedback under 60%. Its FAQ also says the members who get the most work have a decent number of recent reviews, photos and full profiles. That holds true on every platform I've looked at.

TrustATrader says it gets over 700,000 searches a month and runs regular TV and radio advertising. Those are its figures, not mine. The number that matters is how many of those searches are for your trade, in your area.

Is TrustATrader worth joining?

With a fixed annual fee and no lead charges, the sum is simple. Take the yearly fee, divide it by the jobs it wins you, and compare that with your profit per job.

Here's a made-up example in round numbers. Say you're a roofer in Sheffield and the callback quote is £600 for the year. If TrustATrader brings you 20 enquiries over the year and you win 8, each job cost you £75 to win. On repairs and re-roofs, that's very good going. If it brings you 4 enquiries and you win 1, that one job cost £600, and you can't cancel to stop the bleeding.

That's the shape of the risk. The more work it brings, the cheaper every job gets, because the fee doesn't go up with the leads. But a quiet year costs exactly the same as a busy one, and it's paid upfront.

Where TrustATrader tends to make sense

  • You're established, with at least two years in the trade and reviews to show.
  • There's a space in your category in your area, so you're one of a capped number rather than one of dozens.
  • You do work where customers worry about who they let in: roofing, electrics, gas, locks.
  • You'd rather have one fee you know about than a monthly bill that rises with your leads.

Where I'd think twice

  • You're brand new and can't afford a year's fee upfront on an unknown.
  • Your local category is already full of members with years of reviews.
  • You can't get straight answers about how many enquiries similar members in your area received.

TrustATrader reviews from tradesmen

TrustATrader scores 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot from over 8,600 reviews, as of October 2026. But nearly all of those are homeowners reviewing the service they got, not traders reviewing what they paid for.

I couldn't find enough recent reviews from traders to summarise fairly, which is worth knowing in itself. What I can see is that TrustATrader's own join page shows members on their second to sixteenth year, so some trades clearly renew again and again. And one older electricians' forum thread is titled "£800+ to Join Trustatrader!", which tells you the price has been catching people out for a while.

The best review you'll get is from a member in your own trade and area. Look them up on the directory, ring them, and ask what a normal year looked like. Most tradespeople will tell you straight.

Questions to ask on the callback

  • What's the full cost for the first year, including VAT, in writing?
  • Can I pay in instalments, and does that cost more?
  • How many members are in my category in my area right now, out of the ten maximum?
  • Roughly how many enquiries did members in my trade and area get last year?
  • What happens at the end of the year? Will the renewal price be different?
  • Which areas exactly will I appear in?

Straight answers to those and you can make a clean decision. Vague answers are an answer too.

TrustATrader vs Checkatrade on cost

Checkatrade now publishes starting prices: £30 a month plus VAT for its Approved tier, which has no leads, and from £59 a month for Growth, which does. Its paid memberships run for 12 months and renew automatically unless you phone to cancel. The full breakdown is in Checkatrade prices per month.

TrustATrader is one annual fee, no lead charges and no automatic renewal, but no published price either. I've put them side by side, with MyBuilder, in Checkatrade vs MyBuilder vs TrustATrader, and the wider list is in Checkatrade alternatives.

FAQs

Is Trust a Trader free for customers?

Yes. Homeowners search the directory for free. Traders pay the membership fee.

Can you pay TrustATrader monthly?

Its terms describe a yearly fee payable in advance "unless otherwise stated", so ask on the callback whether instalments are possible and whether they change the total.

Can you cancel TrustATrader?

Not during the year. The terms say you can't cancel before the 12 months are up, and fees aren't refunded. It doesn't renew automatically, so you can simply choose not to renew at the end.

How many traders does TrustATrader allow per area?

Its terms say no more than ten entries in your trade category in your area at any one time.

Does TrustATrader charge per lead?

No. Its join page says there's no commission and you never pay for leads. The annual fee covers it.

My take

TrustATrader is a straightforward deal: pay for a year of exposure in a capped directory and keep every enquiry it sends you. For an established trade in the right area, it can be good value. For a new firm, a year upfront on an unknown is a big bet.

Whatever you decide, don't let any directory be your only source of work. Your own Google Business Profile, your own Google reviews and a website that makes ringing you easy keep working whether you renew or not.
